Saudi Arabia and Qatar look to mend ties as the Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani becomes the new ambassador to Qatar.
He is the first to be reinstated by the Arab states that had agreed to end a row with its neighbour earlier this year.
Saudi & Qatar relationship important for the region
Al-Thani and the Arabian Minister for Foreign Affairs exchanged pleasantries and wished the new ambassador success in his duties, assuring him of all support to advance bilateral relations between the two countries to achieve closer cooperation in various fields.
This relationship between the two nations is extremely important for the region, not just politically but also financially. Especially with upcoming FIFA World cup in 2022.
Both countries see the importance of changing the global perception the western world has of the two nations and have invested heavily in providing more modern and western hospitality in their countries. Improving ties with their neighbours is a significant step in driving that change.
Both countries are part of The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) made up of the States in the region.
Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Bahrain had agreed in January to end the boycott imposed in mid-2017 and restore political, trade and travel ties with Doha. Riyadh has taken the lead among the four in re-establishing relations.
